The Jasmine Flower:
A Symbol of Resilience and Growth in
Vivid Reflections

Oct 23

Vivid Reflections explores the beauty of self-reflection through bold fuchsia, gold, and green hues. Sharon Comello’s fine art piece celebrates inner beauty and resilience.

Art has always been a powerful medium for exploring the connection between the outer world and our inner selves. Vivid Reflections is one of those pieces that captures this relationship beautifully. From the moment I started painting it, I knew it would be about more than just physical reflection—it would be a journey into self-discovery and inner beauty.

In Vivid Reflections, the woman is not just looking at her external appearance. The gold-plated mirror she holds is a metaphor for the deeper understanding we gain when we take time to look inward. This painting is an invitation for viewers to explore their own reflections, to find strength in their vulnerabilities, and to embrace the beauty within.

The Inspiration Behind Vivid Reflections

When I began working on Vivid Reflections, I knew I wanted to play with the idea of reflection. But I didn’t want it to be a simple image of a woman gazing into a mirror. I wanted the mirror to represent something more—something symbolic of self-acceptance and inner strength.

The woman in Vivid Reflections is surrounded by jasmine flowers, which hold a deep meaning for me. Jasmine symbolises purity and grace, but it also represents resilience. These blossoms are delicate, yet they thrive and bloom beautifully. In the same way, the woman in this painting is strong, despite her vulnerability.

The gold-plated mirror adds an element of richness and warmth to the painting. Gold, for me, represents not just wealth, but an inner light—a beauty that glows from within. The way the light plays off the gold in the mirror mirrors the way we shine when we truly accept ourselves.

The Power of Colour in Vivid Reflections

Colour is one of my favourite tools as an artist. It allows me to evoke emotions and tell stories without needing words. In Vivid Reflections, the bold, vibrant colours of fuchsia, gold, and green are the heart of the painting.

The deep fuchsias and golds catch the eye immediately, filling the canvas with energy and vitality. These colours were carefully chosen to reflect the woman’s inner beauty. They are rich, bold, and alive—just like the woman herself. The softer tones of green and white provide balance, giving the painting a sense of harmony.

The use of the gold-plated mirror was intentional. I wanted the mirror to feel like more than just an object—it had to feel alive, almost glowing with the woman’s energy. Gold, in this case, represents the beauty that comes from within, the light that shines when we embrace who we are.

Self-Reflection as a Theme in Art

Self-reflection is a theme I often explore in my work. In today’s world, we’re constantly bombarded with images and expectations of how we should look and act. But Vivid Reflections is about turning away from those external expectations and focusing on how we see ourselves.

The woman in Vivid Reflections isn’t concerned with how others see her. Her gaze is soft yet confident. She’s looking beyond the surface, seeing herself for who she truly is. This idea of embracing both our vulnerabilities and our strengths is something I wanted to convey through her expression.

The jasmine flowers that surround her are a symbol of this balance. Flowers are fragile, yet they bloom with such vibrancy. They represent the beauty in vulnerability and the strength that comes from growth. I see the woman in this painting as someone who has gone through her own journey of self-reflection, and she’s come out the other side more confident and at peace with herself.

The Creative Process Behind Vivid Reflections

Creating Vivid Reflections was a journey in itself. I started with bold, sweeping brushstrokes of fuchsia and gold, letting the colours blend and flow together. The painting almost took on a life of its own, with each layer adding more depth and emotion.

The woman’s face was the part of the painting where I spent the most time. Capturing her expression—her soft smile, her reflective gaze—was crucial to bringing the painting to life. I wanted her to feel real, like someone you could connect with on an emotional level. Her expression is one of calm confidence, as if she has found peace in her own reflection.

The gold-plated mirror was the final touch that completed the painting. Adding the gold foil made the mirror feel alive, as though it was glowing with the woman’s inner light. This element of the painting is symbolic of the idea that when we truly see ourselves—when we look beyond the surface—our inner beauty shines through.

The Emotional Impact of Vivid Reflections

What I love most about Vivid Reflections is its emotional depth. It’s not just about looking at yourself—it’s about truly seeing yourself. The woman in this painting is surrounded by beauty, but she’s not defined by it. She’s found a balance between her inner and outer worlds, and that’s something I think we can all learn from.

For me, this painting is a reminder that beauty isn’t just about how we look—it’s about how we see ourselves. It’s about embracing our vulnerabilities, celebrating our strengths, and finding peace in our own reflections.

A Painting for Every Space

Whether it’s hanging in a bedroom, a living room, or even an office, Vivid Reflections brings a sense of warmth and introspection to any space. Its bold colours and delicate details make it a standout piece, while the woman’s soft, confident gaze adds a layer of serenity that invites the viewer to pause and reflect.

If you’re looking for a painting that goes beyond the surface, Vivid Reflections is the perfect piece. It’s more than just an artwork—it’s an invitation to look inward, to explore the beauty and strength that we often overlook in ourselves. Whether you’re an art collector or someone seeking a meaningful addition to your home, this painting speaks to the power of self-reflection and the beauty that comes from within.
